Engineered Permeability: Selecting SuDS-Compliant Base Layers for Resin Surfacing

When considering a Resin Bound driveway system, you need to consider if your current driveway will be a suitable surface. Resin-bound is a great solution for driveways, resins, aggregates, or tools for laying resin bound systems, contact Polybound today.

Bases for Resin Driveways

Unfortunately, you can not lay resin bound permeable paving directly onto some surfaces. This includes block paving, brick paving, flags, or MOT type 1. This is because they are not a solid base. This will cause the resin-bound system to crack.

What Surfaces Can I Lay my Resin Bound Driveway On?

Concrete
Your existing concrete driveway must be thoroughly cleaned and primed prior to the installation of your resin bound driveway. You will need to use a polymer primer. If a primer is not laid beforehand, the two surfaces will not adhere and your resin drive materials will have been wasted. The only way of fixing this would be to restart the project with a new batch of resin-bound supplies.

In addition to the primer gluing the two surfaces together, it also helps to prevent delamination between the resin-bound surface and the concrete. The primer helps to create a barrier between the two surfaces, which prevents the concrete from absorbing the resin out of the stone in the mixture. This is especially important for fresh concrete.

If your concrete driveway has been newly set, (on a sub-base of ideally MOT type 1), there must be a minimum of seven days before the initiation of the resin-bound system. Sometimes it can take up to a month for resin-bound systems to cure on top of concrete.

Tarmac
Tarmac and concrete are the most suitable systems for resin driveways. Resin-bound materials can be laid directly onto an existing tarmac surface if it is in a suitable condition. Tarmac must be laid on an appropriate sub-base, usually MOT type 3. It will need adequate depth in order to support the expected weight of use.

Grid Systems
Grid systems can also be used to support resin bound aggregates. However, you will need double the quantity of resin-bound supplies you would usually use. This means that laying a resin bound driveway over grid systems can be costly.

How can I be sure to get the highest standard resin driveway?
The quality of your resin driveway will depend on the quality of the surface it is being laid on. Here at Polybound, we promote only the best base work and resin bound driveway installations. If we do not think that your current driveway is suitable for a resin bound system, we will advise our customers to consider prep before installation or choosing another driveway option. Ensuring you use the highest quality products when laying your driveway will also help to ensure you achieve a professional finish.

Resin Bound Driveway Durability

Resin bound paving is a long-lasting, durable, crack-resistant surface. Guarantees vary between 10-21 years when properly installed and maintained. Resin bound systems are weed resistant, heat resistant, and URV stable. Resin driveways are also completely porous, meaning that they are protected against floods.

If you are looking for resin driveway materials or a resin driveway installer, contact Polybound today. We have generated a wealth of outstanding reviews. At Polybound, we only lay resin bound surfaces of the highest standards.
