Technical Specifications and Best Practices for Tornado Power Float Operation

In professional resin bound installation, the margin for error is slim. Achieving a consistent, high-quality finish requires the right balance of timing, technique, and equipment. The Tornado Power Float was developed specifically to streamline this process, introducing features that prioritise operator control and site productivity.

Below, we answer the most common technical questions regarding the Tornado’s design and functionality.

Operation & Efficiency

What makes the remote-control functionality unique?

The Tornado is the first in the industry to offer integrated remote-control operation for the sprayer which is controlled in tandem with our Polysolve. The unit includes two remotes, allowing the operator to toggle the solvent spray on and off directly from the handle. This transforms the finishing stage into a true single-operator task, allowing you to reallocate your labour to other areas of the installation.

Can the Tornado Honda Power Float be used on an incline?

Yes, the Tornado can be used on inclines. However, like any power float, the operator should maintain a steady pace and ensure even pressure. The improved throttle and engine control make handling the unit on gradients significantly smoother than standard models.

Why won’t my handle move up or down after assembly?

When the Tornado is used for concrete applications with an extended pole, this bolt remains in place to manage the leverage of the longer reach. However, for resin bound installations using the standard short pole, you need to remove this bolt. Removing it “unlocks” the handle, allowing for the full range of vertical movement and height adjustment required for comfortable, precise floating.

Compatibility & Performance

Does it work with rubber crumb?

Yes. While engineered for resin bound aggregate, the Tornado is also highly effective for finishing rubber crumb installations, such as wet pour surfacing. The ability to apply solvent via the remote system is equally beneficial here to prevent the rubber from sticking to the blades.

Do steel blades cause trowel burn?

Trowel burn is typically a result of friction and heat when the surface is too dry. Because the Tornado features an integrated solvent spray system, you can keep the blades perfectly lubricated throughout the process, which significantly reduces the risk of friction marks. While metal blades are the industry standard for resin bound work, contractors who perform a high volume of installations and are particularly concerned about burn marks can opt to purchase plastic blades for additional peace of mind.

Are extendable poles available?

Yes, we provide extendable poles for the Tornado. These are ideal for reaching across larger areas or navigating awkward layouts without compromising the quality of the power float finish.

Key Features at a Glance:

One-Man Operation: Integrated remote spraying reduces labour costs.

4-Stroke Reliability: Runs on standard unleaded and SAE 10W-30 oil.

Precision Control: Adjustable guide arm for fine-tuned solvent application.

Versatile Design: Suitable for resin bound aggregate and rubber crumb.

Detachable Unit: The 1.5L spray system can be unclipped for total flexibility.

The Tornado isn’t just an upgrade to your kit; it is a new benchmark for resin bound equipment, designed to make installations faster, safer, and more efficient.
